Starting in October in Turin the LAUREUS SPORT FOR GOOD project in collaboration with ASD VALANGA and the paralympic athlete MASSIMO GIANDINOTO and ALPS SOUTH
Once again this October, for the second year in a row, the Sport For Good project, spearheaded by the Laureus Fondation in collaboration with ASD Valanga will be taking off in Turin. Special news this year is that local paralympic star Massimo Giandinoto will also be participating. Giandinoto has long been a brand Ambassador for ALPS SOUTH, the American company specializing in the development and manufacture of prosthetic liners also sponsoring this sporting event.
The Project, which is slated to continue into May 2023, aims get kids with a variety of problems – ranging from high levels of truancy and risks of juvenile delinquency, to those with varying degrees of cognitive or psychological disabilities, to those coming from families receiving help from social services or in socio-economic difficulty – from the Turin neighborhoods of Borgo Vittoria and Vallette involved in sports-training activities.
The project proposes taking on about 30 cognitively impaired children between 7 and 14 years of age coming from the Saba, Vivaldi Murialto and L. Radice Unified Schools, and getting them involved in soccer and mini volleyball activities developed specifically to accommodate their special needs. The training program has been carefully devised to foster, among other things, teachers’ sensitivity to the values that sports can impart.
Fondazione Laureus Sport for Good Italia will be actively participating in the project by training the staff who will be handling the sports, recreational and training activities, providing consultancy regarding sport psychology as well as monitoring the project in real time.
Thanks to the support of ALPS SOUTH, this year the project will also be honored by the special participation of Massimo Giandinoto, paralympic sprinter and para-rafter, multiple times Italian champion and triple bronze-medal winner at the Para-Rafting World Championship in Kiev. Massimo, who has also recently begun to participate in national shooting competitions, winning his first gold medal in the 10 meter rifle contest, will be on hand to tell the kids his life story, from his illness to his psycho-physical rebirth, spreading his message of hope and how important it is to never give up and never let anything get in your way.

Laureus Sport for Good Italia has been developing and supporting projects aimed at uplifting severely deprived youth since 2005, using sports as a tool for inclusion and education, to further the emotional, psychological and motor development of children and teens. The Foundation collaborates with more than 70 local organizations with the support of over 30 Ambassadors, sports champions and others, promoting a host of sports activities and disciplines to Italian cities and suburbs.
