Prosthetic Knees
Prosthetic knees are medical devices that replace normal biological knee function for transfemoral amputees. Such function is achieved by means of mechanical, pneumatic and/or electronic mechanisms and components. The knee is probably the most complex prosthetic component there is. There are different types available which, while performing similar tasks, do so in very different ways.
In addition to providing a secure connection with the rest of the prosthesis, a prosthetic knee must guarantee perfect balance and a smooth gait to ensure maximum comfort and freedom of movement for the user.
